VCIOM keeps tracking the public opinions about the pre-election situation in Moscow. The previous survey (http://wciom.ru/index.php?id=459&uid=114935) referred to the attitudes of the voters towards the candidates` party affiliation and parties that fielded their candidates. This survey was conducted in 43th electoral district and presents the attitudes of the voters towards candidates in a single-seat constituency.
MOSCOW, August 20, 2014. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the information concerning the public awareness about the upcoming Moscow Duma elections, declared electoral activity and political preferences.
An overwhelming majority of the residents of the 43th Moscow electoral district are aware of the upcoming Moscow Duma elections (91%). The level of the declared electoral activity is 54% (34% say they will definitely take part in elections; 18% have doubts about that). One-quarter of respondents (24%) are not planning to take part in elections. Every fifth (22%) will take decision right before the elections.
Most of respondents are confident that the elections will be trustful: 36% expect that there will be no violations; 32% say that if the violations take place they will be small and will have no effect on the outcome of the elections. Twenty-two percent of respondents feel suspicious about the outcome of the elections.
L. Yarmolnik is the most popular candidate; three-quarter of respondents know who he is (74%). V. Shastina is known among 26% of respondents. Only one-tenth of respondents have heard about T. Denisenko (10%), Yu. Kravchenko (9%), S. Ivanenko (9%), A. Iksanova (9%). Every sixth (18%) does not know any of the candidates.
L. Yarmolnik is the one who is campaigning most actively; every third respondent (36%) has encountered advertising and informational materials of this candidate over the recent month. Every forth (25%) has seen the agitation materials of V. Shastina. At the same time, 40% have not seen any materials of any other candidate.
Most of respondents would vote for L. Yarmolnik (24%) followed by V. Shastina 10%. Others would support T. Denisenko (3%), S. Ivanenko (2%), A. Iksanova (2%), Yu. Kravchenko (2%). Almost every second (43%) does not know what candidate he/she supports for.
Asked about what candidate is supported by the Moscow authorities, 77% of respondents fail to name any of them. The remainder are divided in the opinions: L. Yarmolnik (11%), V. Shastina (8%), T. Denisenko (4%), Yu. Kravchenko (3%), S. Ivanenko (3%), A. Iksanova (3%).
The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted on August 15-19, 2014. One thousand Moscow residents living in three districts of Moscow (Presnenskiy, Arbat and Khamovniki) were interviewed via phone. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
