IN BRIEF

Good salary, commitments towards employees are top criteria Russians pay attention to when choosing an employer; top three Russian employers are Gazprom, RZhD and Rosneft.

MOSCOW, August 1, 2019. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the findings of a survey devoted to key criteria for the best employer as well as a rating of the largest   employers according to Russian views.

The importance of each criterion Russians are guided by when choosing a potential employer has decreased over the recent six years. However the main criteria are still salary (4.69 scores out of 5) and the company’s capacity to execute commitments towards workers in a timely manner (4.66). Attention to labor safety regulations (4.57), positive psychological climate (4.52) and opportunities to use professional skills in the workplace (4.50) are also essential.

Respondents also mention convenient working hours and workplace comfort (4.46), social benefits (4.36), stability (4.33) and effective management (4.14) among other important characteristics.

If Russians were offered a Russian company to work for, most of them would choose Gazprom (40%). A further 23% would opt for RZhD; 18%, RosNeft. They are followed by SberBank (14%), Lukoil and Aeroflot (12%, each). Nine percent of Russians would choose a power company (RusHydro or FSK EES). The same share of respondents would like to work for Norilsk Nickel (9%). Seven percent would opt for VTB and VTB 24. MTS and Beeline are mentioned less frequently (3% 2%, respectively). Other employers Russians are interested in are Rosgosstrakh (3%), Wimm Bill Dann (2%) and EvrazHolding (1%).

VCIOM-Sputnik survey was conducted on July 9, 2019. The survey involved 1,600 Russians aged 18 and over. The survey was telephone-based and carried out using stratified dual-frame random sample based on a complete list of landline and mobile phone numbers operating in Russia. The data were weighted according to selection probability and social and demographic characteristics. The margin of error at a 95% confidence level does not exceed 2.5%. In addition to sampling error, minor changes in question wording and different circumstances arising during the fieldwork can introduce bias into the survey.
