Russians would like to see their country great and prosperous. To achieve this Russia should build strong socially oriented state.

MOSCOW, June 26, 2013. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data concerning what Russians think about the Russia’s future; what kind of country Russia will be in the future, and what ideas will shape the future of Russia.

Almost half of Russians think over the way that Russia will be like in five or ten years (47%):  11% - regularly, 36% - from time to time. They are basically 45-59-year-old Russians (52%); the share of young Russians who think about the future of their country is 44%.  Other 13% of Russians happened to think about it a couple of times; 13% thought about it before but stopped; 24% have never thought about the Russia’s future.

By 2020 Russians would like to see their country great and prospering (43%). Respondents would also like Russia to have high living standards (11%), to be highly developed  (9%), stable (5%), democratic (5%), fair (4%), to have successful social policy (4%), to be economically developed industrial and agricultural country that combated corruption (4%, per each) et cet.

According to Russians, Russia goes towards socially oriented state that takes care of its citizens (28%, in 2005 – 17%). They also cite the return to moral values tested by time and unity-based order (17%), the idea of the great power unifying different peoples (15%), social justice (13%). Rarer Russians think that Russia is developing towards free market, private property and democracy (8%, for each), or towards the idea of “Russia for Russians” (7%).

The VCIOM opinion polls were conducted on May 18-19, 2013. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 communities in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
