Family is valued most for 97% of Russians. Religion is less important thing for Russians, however its value keeps growing.

MOSCOWJune 25, 2010. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the data concerning what is valued most by Russians. 

Family is the most important sphere of life for Russians (reported by 97% of respondents), followed by friendship 92%), love and situation in the country (86% for each). Business, profession (83%) and spare time (81%) are less important things for Russians. Sex (70%) and religion (68%) are least important spheres of life, respondents say.  

The meaning of each sectors of life has been changing over the recent years. At that point, friendship (from 96 to 92%) and love (from 91 to 86%) is less priced by Russians. The value of what happens in the country was growing till 2009 (from 82 to 87%); however, there was a slight decrease over the recent year (to 85%). Work is less valued by respondents (from 87 to 83%). On the contrary, the value of religion has kept growing over the recent five years (from 63 to 68%).

The most important thing for both men and women are family (96% of men and 98% of women), friendship (92 and 94% respectively), love (87 and 86% respectively), and situation in the country (85% for each).  However the number of men outweighs the number of women who appreciate profession (88% versus 79% respectively), spare time (84% versus 80% respectively), and sex (80% versus 62% respectively) most. On the contrary, more women mention religion first (75% versus 61% among men).

Undoubtedly, family is valued most for Russians of all ages (96-98%). Respondents also equally mention friendship (91-94%) which is less important for elderly persons (88%). Love is most precious for Russians younger than 45 years old (93-94%), who also recognizes sex as an important sphere of human life (86-89%). Spare time is viewed as important among respondents aged above 35 (89-91%); situation in the country - among those aged above 35 (86-89%). Religion is valued most among 25-34-year-old (72%) and 45-59-year-old Russians (71%).

The initiative Russian opinion polls were conducted on May 29-30, 2010. 1600 respondents were interviewed at 140 sampling points in 42 regions of Russia. The margin of error doesnot exceed 3.4 %.
