Today more than half of Russians track the dollar exchange rate.
MOSCOW, April 22, 2014. Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents the information describing whether Russians track the dollar exchange rates.
Every second Russian (53%) track the dollar to rubble exchange rate (16% - regularly; 37% from time to time). However, 46% are not interested in it. Currently those who track the exchange rates of dollar are basically respondents with high level of income (73%), Muscovites and St.Petersburgians (72%), persons with high income (68%), and middle-aged Russians (63% among 35-44-year-old Russians). Those who do not care about the dollar exchange rate are Russians with elementary level of education (74% of them do not track the rates), and elderly respondents (65% of persons aged over 60).
The share of Russians who display interest in the dollar exchange rate has increased (44% in the first quarter; 53% in the second quarter, 2014). A year ago 46% of Russians, in a varying degree, tracked the exchange rate (second quarter 2013). To compare, five years ago the share of Russians interested in the dollar to rubble exchange rate was 53% (second quarter 2009). Over the recent years the average share of Russians who display interest in the dollar exchange rate has been 48%.
The VCIOM opinion poll was conducted on March 12-13, 2014. 1600 respondents were interviewed in 130 communities in 42 regions of Russia. Data are weighted by gender, age, education, working status and type of settlement. The margin of error does not exceed 3.4%.
